Fireworks, Flags, and (Don't Forget the) Fear!

The Washington Post published an article today on the front page about the administration's top officials who have the daunting task of guarding the nation's safety (this article appeared on the Post's website 2 days earlier). The timing of the article perhaps is meant to remind us all that the 'boogeyman' is still out there as we celebrate this 4th of July.

From the article:
"The actual physical threat to America today from abroad, in reality, is worse than it as in the Cold War."
"The NCTC...produces a daily threat matrix, which averages 15 or more wide-ranging terrorist threats agains American interests, outside Iraq and Afghanistan."
"We don't anticipate too well where stuff comes from in these wars. Our ability to predict is pretty lousy."
"The enemy America's fighting...killed 3,000. But they would like to kill 30,000 or 300,000. ... They have no limits in what they'll do to kill us."
