Inside Voice reflects what it means to live and create in the heart of the nation’s capital — where history, protest, and power often unfold right outside my studio window. While much of the country sees these moments through the news, I witness some of them firsthand.

Yet in today’s polarized climate, I sometimes hesitate to translate them directly onto the canvas. It draws inspiration from the German Expressionists of the Die Brücke movement — artists who called themselves “internal immigrants” as they struggled to stay true to their vision within a fractured society.

The painting on the easel is a reinterpretation of Matt Sesow’s recent work Pansies, adding a dialogue between our perspectives and artistic approaches.
