The chicken stands in the roasting pan mid-crow, one leg already tied to a ball of kitchen twine, a sprig of rosemary waiting beside his feet. Nothing has happened yet — the string is slack, the pan is cold — but every ingredient is in position, including him. Part of a series painted for a September exhibition in Riga, Latvia, restoring the animal to the recipe.
