Star Spangled Banner series
May 2007
|
The paintings on this page are from Dana Ellyn's series entitled "Star Spangled Banner."
She created one painting for
each of the 15 stanzas in the national anthem. The paintings reinterpret the U.S. national anthem, challenging its patriotic symbolism with bold, insightful commentary - examining themes of war, nationalism and the American identity.
These paintings were exhibited at Ellyn's solo show, "I Call Shenanigans" at Long View Gallery in Washington, DC from June 6th through June 30th, 2007.
