Kind by Gretchen Primack — Poems to Inspire Compassion for Animals
“…color art from three remarkable painters: Dana Ellyn, whose work is also featured on the new cover; Jane O’Hara; and Gus Mueller.”Gretchen Primack, in The Vegan Atlas
A pink piglet wearing a brown-and-white dog-head hat sits beside a Boston terrier wearing a pink pig-head hat. Both face the viewer against a pale blue wall over a dark floor.
The book’s title, kind, and the word poems are set in the blue above them, with Gretchen Primack’s name and “Foreword by Tim Seibles” on the dark ground below.
Dana Ellyn’s painting Disguise (2015) is on the front cover of Kind, a collection of poems by Gretchen Primack, published in hardcover by Lantern Publishing & Media in 2021. Five more of her paintings are printed inside in color, each set beside a poem: Pattern Chicken, Veal, Piggy, Kitty and Kitten Nuggets.
Kind was first published by Post Traumatic Press. For the Lantern edition, Primack added ten new poems, a foreword by Tim Seibles, and color art by three painters: Dana Ellyn, Jane O’Hara and Gus Mueller.
Kind is the kind of poetry book that makes you think differently about our world and the beings that inhabit it. Primack explores all facets of our lives with other beings—the beauty, the tragedy, and the absurdity that surrounds her existence.Book description, Amazon listing
