The Washington Post
"Giving Artists Space to Create" · also headlined "The Artful Lodgers"
In September 2007, The Washington Post featured Dana Ellyn in a story on affordable artist housing in Washington, DC. Photographed at her easel in her live-work unit at Mather Studios on G Street NW, Ellyn — then 36 and four years into painting full time after leaving her law firm job — was the article's example of the model working: an attainable mortgage in the heart of downtown that let her concentrate on painting.
The story ran under two headlines — "Giving Artists Space to Create" on the section front and "The Artful Lodgers" in the Condo Living section — and was followed by coverage in The Express on September 28, 2007.
"My painting sales have gotten better, with that my confidence has grown…. It's a mortgage that's attainable.… It frees me up to not worry what people will think." — Dana Ellyn, The Washington Post, September 15, 2007
